WarmWise Homes

WarmWise Homes - your home comfort and efficiency specialist
'WarmWise Homes' is an offshoot branch of Ecolution SBS, focussing on warmth, health and efficiency of existing homes.
New Zealand's existing housing stock is frequently haunted by dampness, condensation, rot, cold temperatures, drafts and high heating bills.
WarmWise was created to focus on these common issues - retrofitting existing homes to improve their temperature, moisture and energy efficiency (building performance) at low cost.

Home Assessments
Through advanced knowledge of building physics, I can undertake an assessment of a house, identify the issues and produce an action plan targeting the greatest 'bang for buck' measures to maximise warmth, health and efficiency at lowest cost.
Elements investigated during an assessment:
Insulation levels. In the roof, walls, floor.
Drafts. Around windows/doors, chimneys, services, etc.
Windows. Glazing layers, seals, openings, curtains.
Dampness. Sources of moisture, extract ventilation, openable windows.
Heating systems. Type, capacity, rooms served, hot water.
Overheating. Where excessively warm temperatures are experienced.
Electrical. Lighting, appliances.
Renewables. Potential for solar power.
'Green ratings'. Where homes are of a high quality in terms of performance and sustainability, there is the option to pursue a Homestar rating.
To acknowledge and reflect varying budgets, Home Assessment's are tiered to target the most likely points of interest, as follows:

Window repairs
Windows are typically one of the most significant weak points in a building's thermal envelope. Double glazing is often touted as 'the fix' when it comes to windows but while it is undoubtedly a substantial improvement over single glazed windows, they do come at a substantial cost and are often not a practical option.
Many existing NZ houses are fitted with timber framed windows. Even when new, timber frames can leak air; and over time they tend to deteriorate, becoming warped, damp and even more drafty. In many cases, a far more affordable (than double glazing) home improvement measure is to restore the window frames and reduce drafts.
WarmWise Homes can give your window frames a new lease of life. From simple installation of anti-draft seals, to removing rot and renewing the paintwork, I can provide this uncommon service, in-house.
If you can feel drafts coming through your windows when they are closed, they will be haemorrhaging warm air in winter, making your house colder and your heating bills costlier. If this sounds like your house, contact me for a free appointment and quote.
